About Me

The Planting Consultancy was founded by me, Carol O'Sullivan, a highly experienced Horticulturist and Garden Designer. Growing up in Cork City, I was really interested in the natural world from an early age and have lovely memories of my father's home grown new potatoes cooked by my mother and served with salt and butter!

I pursued my education in Geography and Sociology at University College Cork (UCC) and completed a Master of Science (Agr.) in Environmental Resource Management at University College Dublin (UCD).

With a strong urge to travel and explore opportunities abroad, I gained valuable experience in landscaping in the USA. Upon my return to Ireland, I decided to deepen my knowledge in the field of Horticulture, qualifying in 2003 from the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland and gaining unique experience in the OPW's Garnish Island, The National Botanic Garden of Wales and with many private clients along the way. 

This depth of hands-on experience is the reason I put plants at the heart of every design. I know them, I value them — and I want those plants to not only give clients great joy, but to be nature-supporting too.

I founded The Planting Consultancy after a second career in Adult Education with a specialism in disability studies. Creating my own practice meant I could collect my two boys from school, have flexibility in my working life — and so far, so good!

I am based in Cork City and all services start with a consultation either online or on-site. You can contact me here and I will take it from there.
