The Coastal Garden Design
This garden is located in a stunning coastal location. The remit of this project was to create a striking planting design that is both naturalistic and tolerant of the exposed seaside conditions.

The Importance of Context
In garden design, the context or setting where the site to be designed is-key to all decisions, especially about plants. The fact that this garden is situated in both a coastal and rural setting has to influence all of the plant choices.
As an experienced garden designer Carol believes that the objective of a planting design is to blend in with its surroundings and be appropriate for the environmental conditions. This can involve the strategic use of native plants to enhance the local ecosystem also. In this planting design out of 28 species 10 species are native or cultivars of native plants. This approach not only promotes biodiversity but also ensures that the new planting is in tune with the indigenous flora, supporting local wildlife and creating a sustainable habitat.

Naturalistic Planting Design
The naturalistic planting design embraces an effortless informal style characterised by drifts of ornamental grasses and perennials. This aesthetic enhances the beauty of outdoor spaces while promoting biodiversity. The careful arrangement of these plants creates a serene and inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal choice for gardens aiming for a harmonious connection with nature. Considering a naturalistic garden design is a win-win for all.

Key Components of this Planting Plan
- Ornamental Grasses: These versatile plants add texture and movement to any planting design- hugely enhancing the overall appeal of your garden.
- Perennials: Selected for their seasonal interest, can perennials provide a continuous display of color and life throughout most of the year, through sucessional planting plans.
- Shrubs and Trees: Incorporating shrubs and trees serves as "anchors," providing year round structure running through your garden design.
